Fuji qualifying cancelled due to weather - Alpine takes pole

Qualifying positions were based off practice times

Qualifying for the 2026 6 Hours of Fuji has been cancelled on Saturday due to rain and low visibility.

With rain having fallen for much of the morning, visibility was particularly poor at the start of qualifying for the LMGT3 runners.

AF Corse LMGT3 driver Francois Heriau speared into the barriers less than two minutes into the session and officials quickly cancelled qualifying for both LMGT3 and Hypercar, setting the starting grid based on each car's best time from the previous practice sessions from weekend thus far.

As a result, Alpine have inherited pole position, the No. 36 car having set the fastest time of the weekend in FP2.

The No.007 Aston Martin secured the second-fastest time but will receive a two-place grid penalty meaning it will start from fourth.

That has elevated the No. 35 car to second on the grid, making it Alpine's first front-row lockout in 2026.

Fresh off its best result to date in Texas, Genesis Magma Racing has now secured its best-ever qualifying performance. The No. 19 car will start third, two places ahead of the sister No. 17 car. Mathys Jaubert later voiced his relief at not having to contest a wet qualifying.

The No.009 Aston Martin will start sixth, ahead of the No.38 Cadillac, No.8 Toyota and No.93 Peugeot.

The No.12 Cadillac rounded off the top ten ahead of the No.50 Ferrari and the No.83 AF Corse car.

The No.7 Toyota will start 13th ahead of the No.15 BMW and No.94 Peugeot, while the No.51 Ferrari and championship-leading No.20 BMW round off the Hypercar grid.

In LMGT3, the No.77 Proton Competition Mustang will start on pole after Ben Tuck set a time of 1m39.828 in FP2. The No.79 Iron Lynx Mercedes took second ahead of the No.78 Akkodis Lexus.

The No.58 Garage 59 took fourth two places ahead of the No.59 car.

The No.34 Racing Team Turkey car was the highest-placed Corvette in eighth, while the championship-leading No.33 car was tenth. The No.21 AF Corse Ferrari is expected to start ninth, despite Hériau's early crash.

Rain is expected to fall at Fuji on Sunday. Should the race go ahead as planned, the 2026 6 Hours of Fuji will begin at 3 AM BST on the 26th of September.
