Alpine sets the pace in Fuji practice

Alpine and Aston Martin were closely matched in FP2

Alpine took top honours in free practice 2 ahead of the 2026 6 Hours of Fuji, securing a 1-3 in Friday's final session.

After securing some much-needed running in FP1, the A424 then hit its stride in FP2 as Victor Martins clocked a best time of 1m29.304 seconds.

The sister No.35 car of Ferdinand Habsburg and Charles Milesi underlined Alpine’s pace by taking third, though the team was denied a one-two by the No.007 Aston Martin.

But although Alpine occupied two of the top three positions, the gaps were tight, with top three were separated by less than a tenth of a second.

Fresh off a first podium of the season last time out in Austin, Alpine will be keen to capitalise on its momentum, having made waves earlier in the week with the announcement that Antonio Felix da Costa and Frederic Makowiecki will not be part of the team’s line-up at Fuji.

Elsewhere, Genesis Magma Racing continued its steady progress and ended FP2 in fourth and fifth, thanks in part to a late surge by Mathys Jaubert in the No.17 car.

The No.009 Aston Martin took sixth ahead of No.38 Cadillac and No.8 Toyota, which had previously gone quickest in FP1.

On paper, the team has dropped off in form, but with the No.8 car’s fastest lap in FP2 just 0.20 slower than its best effort in FP1, the GR010 has been a consistent entry.

The No. 93 Peugeot took ninth ahead of the No. 12 Cadillac.

Ferrari meanwhile has struggled for pace so far this weekend. The leading No. 50 car was 0.685s off the pace-setting Alpine and could only manage 11th, one place ahead of the No. 83 AF Corse car and four tenths quicker than the sister No. 51 entrant.

The No. 7 Toyota separated them in 13th, the No. 15 BMW in 14th, and the No. 94 Peugeot in 15th. The No. 20 BMW finished the session at the bottom of the timesheets.

In LMGT3, Proton Competition took the spoils in FP2 thanks to the No. 77 Mustang.

Iron Lynx were a persistent presence, finishing second and fourth, while the championship-leading TF Sport Corvette had to make do with eighth. Garage 59, after dominating FP1 with a one-two, could only manage 11th and 16th in the following session.

The 2026 6 Hours of Fuji will begin at 7 AM BST on 27 September.
