Cadillac gets redemption with Sao Paulo pole

Cadillac secured a 1-2 for the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo

Cadillac has taken pole position for the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo after a chaotic ending to Hyperpole.

After failing to make an impression in free practice or the first part of qualifying, Cadillac Hertz Team Jota found a fresh burst of pace as the track improved towards the end of Hyperpole.

The No.12 car of Will Stevens and Norman Nato topped the final session with a time of 1m23.041. The No.38 car of Sébastien Bourdais, Earl Bamber and Jack Aitken underlined the V-Series.R’s pace by securing second.

After dominating proceedings in Sao Paulo last year, Cadillac are perfectly placed to avenge its Le Mans disappointment and make it back to back Brazillian victories.

With less than a tenth covering the top five in Hyperpole, it was anyone's guess as to who would emerge in front.

Alpine was consistent throughout qualifying. The No.36 car qualified third, two places ahead of the No.35 car. The No.15 BMW, with Dries Vanthoor at the helm, was in the mix throughout but ultimately missed out on Hyperpole by just 0.094s.

Genesis Magma Racing’s free practice form turned out not to be a false lead. Mathieu Jaminet in the No.19 car regularly posted fastest times throughout the initial stages of qualifying but ended Hyperpole three-tenths of a second adrift in sixth. This equals the team’s best qualifying result to date.

Despite a strong showing in FP1, Ferrari lacked one-lap pace in qualifying. The leading No.50 car of Antonio Fuoco will line up seventh, just 0.015s clear of the No.94 Peugeot.

After making an impression in free practice, Aston Martin was the early pacesetter in both qualifying and Hyperpole. The No.007 car ended the session ninth, ahead of the No.83 AF Corse Ferrari that had a run-in with the No.8 Toyota at turn one. Antonio Giovinazzi in the No.51 Ferrari was visibly disappointed at missing out.

Toyota’s lack of pace hindered its qualifying efforts as both cars failed to progress to Hyperpole and will line up 14th and 16th.

The No.009 Aston Martin was once again unable to match the pace of the sister car and split the Toyotas in 15th, while the No.20 BMW was 17th.

In LMGT3, the No.23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin took a surprise pole position, two tenths ahead of established front runners Mercedes and Lexus.

The No.79 Iron Lynx Mercedes will line up second ahead of the No.87 Akkodis ASP Lexus. The No.69 BMW qualified fourth ahead of the No.61 Mercedes and No.7 Manthey Porsche.

It was a disappointing showing from AF Corse in LMGT3 as neither car progressed to Hyperpole.

Elsewhere, the championship-leading No.33 TF Sport Corvette made an early exit in 12th, while the No.10 Garage 59 McLaren suffered a spin at Juncao en route to 14th.

The 2026 6 Hours of São Paulo will begin on the 12th of July at 3:30 PM UK time.
