Ford's WEC challenger makes its on-track debut

The car completed its first run at Paul Ricard

Amidst much speculation, Ford’s Hypercar challenger has finally hit the track after tackling its first test at Paul Ricard.

Reliability was the main priority, given both the nature of the championship and the still unproven powerplant. An aggressive aero philosophy is evident given the prominent front wing and central rear fixture.

This new challenger is expected to feature a 5.4-litre V8, the distinct sound of which is evident in the limited test footage we have been fed thus far.

Both Matt Campbell and Logan Sargent got behind the wheel of the car at the Paul Ricard test. But needless to say, there’s plenty more testing ahead.

Not least because of the roster of confirmed drivers that need bedding in that consists of a lineup that includes Tom Blomqvist and Nick Yelloy.

Ford’s route to the WEC has been far from easy, with just seven months until the 2027 season opener and fellow newcomer McLaren having already debuted its contender earlier this year.

Is Ford’s Hypercar programme already facing an uphill battle?
As of yet, Ford’s all-new Hypercar is yet to even turn a wheel on track

It's tough to contest the notion that Ford is facing an uphill battle, not least because of the age-old rivalry the company is looking to resurrect with old sparring partner Ferrari.

But having taken to the track and acquired some valuable running time and data, Ford has at least made a useful step forward in its Hypercar program.
